Halloween is right around the corner, and I’ve got to say that this is probably my favorite holiday! Now that I’ve got my little family, I love thinking of ways to create family costumes. Gone are my days of attempting to be some random “sexy” animal/occupation/food (sexy pizza, anyone?), and I am so freakin’ glad. I hate to admit, and literally cringe at the fact, that I’ve dressed up as a sexy bee, a sexy robber, or best of all—The Walk of Shame (I was an actual hot mess).
Halloween is so, so different for me in all of the best ways possible. I am so lucky that my husband will let me dress him up in practically anything because the end results have been nothing short of awesome. My kids also look forward to dressing up with us for Halloween, and I hope and pray that they always will for many years to come—including the teenage ones (a girl can dream, right?).
One of the things I really enjoy DIYing are costumes. I can proudly say that the last time I purchased a costume was 2006. My grandmother and mother are talented seamstresses, and have passed down just enough of that talent on to me. At least enough that I can make a passable costume. Here are costumes I’ve made in the past (I’m burying anything made before 2013, by the way).
Halloween family costumes started off with just me and my wild ideas, but have now transformed into a family affair. I ask my little ones what they’d like to be, and my husband helps me make these wishes come true. The Thanos costume last year was a combined effort of mine and Ian’s skills. I am so, so proud of the the work he put into it and so thrilled that he’s more than happy to be a part of the process. As for me, I’ve painted my entire face the past two years and I’ll be keeping the trend up this year. This time I will be preeeetty purple.
