Welcome to our blog! We are Janelle and Bianca, two moms just trying to figure it all out while documenting the process. Our blog started out as late night phone calls to one another ranging from normal girl talk to parenting questions (or more specifically “wtf am I doing!?” questions), but our conversations slowly evolved into the idea of creating a blog that practically highlights every topic we’ve ever discussed. I mean, it couldn’t possibly be just the two of us coincidentally going through this journey! So here we are, wanting to share (almost) every tidbit of our lives and hoping to gain some insight from our community of fellow mamas, too.
Okay, but who are you guys?
Janelle is a former fashion stylist and buyer. She always knew she wanted kids and to be a mom but with the way her life and career was going at the time, the idea of it all seemed far off into the future. So when her and her boyfriend (now husband! <3) found out they were expecting, it was definitely one of life’s crazy curveballs but they embraced it as their biggest blessing. Just because they welcomed this new stage of their lives with open arms doesn’t mean it was easy and perfect, there were a lot of struggles along the way such as dealing with antepartum depression. Her first year of motherhood had a lot of ups and downs, feeling lost and unfamiliar in her role as a mother. But that all changed by the time her daughter turned 1 and a month after her birthday they found out they were expecting again! Fast forward to now, Janelle has a 2 1/2 year old daughter, Lana and a 1 year old son, Isaiah. Since she became a mom of 2, her life has completely flipped into a different direction and she is now living her best life as stay at home mom! Read more about Janelle Here.
Before motherhood, Bianca was a special education teacher. After giving birth to her son, she became a stay at home mom. Soon after, her husband’s job required them to move. So, off to the mountains of San Diego they went (yes, SD has it all—beaches, warm weather, and mountains). Once fully immersed in the Bay Area’s bustling city life, Bianca is now experiencing that mellow country life. It was not an easy transition, but quite a journey navigating through a new city and a new lifestyle, on top of being a new mom! Of course, once the dust seemed to settle for her, life decided it would be the perfect time to surprise her with another blessing, her daughter. Bianca quickly became a mom of two-under-two and continued to stay at home (occasionally doing some work-from-home and traveling). But the time has come, and now that both kids are back in school, it was high time for Bianca to also get back in the classroom as a teacher. What’s up with the name?
One day, we were brainstorming with two of our closest friends. We knew we wanted to create this blog, and we knew what we wanted it to encompass. But we could not for the life of us think of a name! We put up large butcher paper, opened up bottle(s) of wine, and started a semi-long creative process to come up with a name that would perfectly describe us. This took HOURS, and we eventually went home with nothing. Then one morning, we were on the phone discussing our plans for the day while doing our umpteenth load of laundry. Janelle had an appointment to get her lashes done later that day, and Bianca replied, “I love that we still go out of our way to get our Lashes done”. And that’s how Laundry & Lashes was born. It is a metaphor for our lives that describe our journey into motherhood while still maintaining our own identity. Give a girl the right set of lashes and she can conquer the world—or, at the very least, a mountain of laundry.
