Since we’ve been quarantined / shelter in place / staying home I’ve taken up new hobbies, DIY projects and finally getting around to some overdue house projects. I’ve done it all these past months from baking banana bread, trying to garden (try to keep a plant alive), to redecorating/organizing the entire house. After doing all that I wanted to find a new form of self-care. Everything I would normally do like play volleyball, get my nails done, or happy hour with friends are still closed and definitely not the safest thing to do right now. So I started thinking of what I could do at home.
I've always been more of a creative person and love doing arts and crafts with the kids. I genuinely enjoy coloring or painting Paw Patrol & Disney Princesses with them. 🤣 So, I thought of looking into coloring books for adults. I always heard it can be calming so I figured why not! I came across an ad for “Paint by Numbers” and that was just what I was looking for. It took so long trying to pick what I wanted to paint, I passed on the hundreds of Starry Night in neon colors ads that we’re popping up on my feed. It all seemed too cheesy; I wanted something that I would frame and hang up after.
Then I found @catepaperco on Etsy and they had exactly what I was looking for. There were modern illustrations of fruits, plant/succulents, flowers, etc… There were so many cute options to choose from that I ended up buying more to gift to others.
Paint by numbers was so easy, therapeutic and calming for me. I would work on it when I had time to myself or even while the kids were doing their arts and crafts. I highly recommend it!
Have you found any new hobbies or forms of self-care during this time? I would love to hear some new ideas! đź–¤ J
